The montpelier rock rose, Cistus monspeliensis is an attractive, bushy, evergreen shrub with dark-green, narrow leaves and saucer-shaped white flowers with bright yellow stamens. It flowers in late spring, bridging the gap between spring and summer, before roses start to bloom in June.
For best results grow Cistus monspeliensis in full sun in well-drained soil. It's particularly well suited to growing in rock gardens and containers, and also works well when planted with other Mediterranean shrubs such as rosemary and lavender.
